2011 One-shot ideas

Some games that I'd be interested in playing or GM-ing in the new year:

All four of the FFG RPGs that Imperator has mentioned.

I love Burning Empires, but it doesn't work very well as a one-shot. I'm not so sure about Burning Wheel or Mouse Guard, having not tried them as one-shots, but the learning curve on BW at least is pretty steep.

I'd be especially interested in running or playing (for one-shots): Unsung, Misspent Youth, In a Wicked Age, 3:16, Apocalypse World, Trollbabe, Starblazer Adventures, Diaspora, Truth & Justice, or Trail of Cthulhu. I'd be especially interested in playing (though I don't think I could run most of them): Gamma World, Dogs in the Vineyard, or Dark Heresy.

I have had a very strange thought for a series of one shots. Would there be interest in a series of GURPS Holiday Campaigns? It would essentially be a one-shot of a holiday themed game, sort of in celebration of whatever holiday was coming up. If there is enough interest I will start generating campaigns and characters.

If the game is held on a day/night I am available, I would be willing to try just about anything though I do enjoy combat heavier games moreso than others.

Bohrdumb: you should try 3:16 then - you can call in orbital nukes. Or Burning Wheel - the only game with indie cred *and* armor penetration rules!

But seriously, don't you like run a Christian youth group? Do you just read Joshua and Judges over and over again?

Haha, Im actually on the far more pacifist end of things religiously speaking...maybe that's why I like killing things in games so much!

BW is easy to do as a one shot as is Mouse Guard, since you've got such adventures as The Sword and The Gift, which Luke Crane wrote up as one shot intros into BW. I'm pretty sure there's one like that for Mouse Guard as well.

I can do the Gamma World thing, just got to find the time.

Actually, it's the BE one-shot that makes me cautious about the BW ones. I've run Fires Over Omac twice as an attempt to introduce new players to BE, and it's tanked awfully both times. The Burning* games seem (IME) to require too much investment in character Beliefs to really sing in a short session with pre-gens - my last, lamented, Burning Empires game was at its most awesome when the laser guns were backgrounded to revelations of family secrets and Duels of Wits carried out over the dinner table (one of my all-time favorite gut-punch scenes I've had in a campaign, ever, involved a stuffed space cruiser toy).

All of those look great! Just let me know when you guys would like to run anything and I'll hype it up!

I, for one, would love to run Talisman for a one-shot in 2011. I also would be interested in playing some stuff I haven't played as well. I have heard really good things about Mouse Guard, and I really dig the graphic novels. But there's a wide world of gaming out there to explore.

By the way, I just got Deatwatch too. So as soon as I learn the system well enough, I'm good to run that too.
